Flooding has been reported in Galveston and on some Houston area roadways as a storm in the Gulf moves through the Texas coast.
Flood advisories have been issued for west central Chambers County and east central Harris County until 11:30 a.m. Rain gauges in Baytown earlier reported a little over an inch of rainfall within an hour, and two high water locations have been reported in the city at Business State Highway and South Main, according to Houston Transtar.
The storm’s strength had decreased since forecasters started tracking the system earlier this week. As of this morning, forecasters predicated a 20 percent chance of developing into a tropical system in the next two days.
Disorganized showers and a shelf of low pressure over the western Gulf hampered the storm earlier this week.
Heavy rainfall and wind gusts are expected to hit northeastern Mexico and Texas through Saturday.
Showers and thunderstorms may bring up to half an inch of new rainfall to the Houston area today, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters predict a 40 percent chance of continuing thunderstorms later tonight, with a 50 percent chance on Saturday.
